Developer
You:
- have dabbled in at least two new languages over the past three years, and are confident on two operating systems;
- love reading about what you do in order to improve how you do it (blogs, books, essays);
- like the idea of working in a small, non-hierarchical team;
- are comfortable with a modern scripting language (ruby, python, perl, etc.), and / or anything that might be interesting (erlang, smalltalk, lisp, haskell);
- are more than comfortable with XHTML/CSS, modern JavaScript libraries and unobtrusive JavaScript (and have strong opinions about user interfaces);
- live in or can move to Melbourne, Australia (we’d love remote work to work better, but the tech just isn’t as good as face to face communication yet);
- have 2+ years of experience working on commercial or open source projects.
The Job:
What we do:
Internal web projects from which we intend to make money (!!), projects from our larger business group (Investling) and client projects, generally in the web space. We also occasionally get other interesting client work (truck routing, production scheduling, etc.).
Work conditions:
We’re open to flexible hours and don’t require your physical presence every day, but we will need to see you during normal business hours at least a few times a week. We’re owned and managed by programmers, and we’re pretty relaxed.
Skills:
A formal education isn’t required, but proficiency and knowledge of computer science fundamentals is (you don’t need to have gone to university, but you have to have learned what they would have taught you there).
Salary:
Remuneration will be commensurate with your abilities, and we’re open to negotiation, but you’ll have to work to convince us that you’re a good match for the position if you’re looking for more than $110k, or you’re worth less than $55k.
Next Steps:
Contact jobs@trike.com.au with:
- your resumé;
- a list of your favourite languages, and why they’re your favourites;
- a list of your favourite websites and web tools, and why they’re your favourites;
- your favourite IT blogs, books and essays;
- a good time that we could call you (give us a couple of days after you post your application).
